According to Legend

A legend about this place is related to Akbar and Dhyanu Bhagat, the ultimate devotee of Mata. This is the incident of the days when Mughal Emperor Akbar ruled India.
Dhayanu devotee, a servant of Mata, resident of Nadaun village of Himachal, was going to visit Mata along with a thousand passengers. Seeing such a large group, the soldiers of the emperor stopped him at Chandni Chowk Delhi and took him to the court of Akbar and presented him to the meditation devotee.

The king asked where are you going with such men. Dhyanu folded his arm and replied that I am going to see Jwalamai. People who are with me are also devotees of Mother and are going on a journey.

Akbar heard who said this who is Jwalamai? And what will happen when I go there? Dhyanu devotee replied that Maharaj Jwalamai is the mother to follow the world.

She accepts the prayers made from the true heart of the devotees. His glory is such that in his place the flame keeps on burning without oil and light. We visit him every year.

Akbar said that if your ban is Pak, then Mother Goddess will definitely respect you. If he does not take care of devotees like you, then what is the use of your prayers?

Either that goddess is not capable of faith, or your worship is false. For examination, we separate the neck of your horse, you ask your goddess to get her alive again. Thus the horse’s neck was cut off.

Seeing no objections, Dhyanu devotees prayed to the king to keep the horse’s head and torso safe for a period of one month. Akbar obeyed the devotee and got permission to travel.

Departing from the emperor, Dhyanu devotee along with his companions attended the court of mother. After bathing and worshiping, I awakened overnight.

During the morning aarti, with folded hands, Dhyanu prayed that Mateshwari is an Antaryami. The king is testing my devotion, keeping my shame, making my horse alive with his grace and strength.

It is said that the mother resurrected the horse while taking care of her devotee.

Emperor Akbar was shocked after seeing all this. He called his army and went towards the temple himself.

After reaching there, there was doubt in his mind. He caused his army to pour water into the temple, but the flame of the mother did not extinguish.

Then he was convinced of the glory of the mother and offered a quarter of a gold (fifty kilos) of gold. But Mata did not accept that umbrella and that umbrella fell and converted into some other substance.

You can still see that chatter of Emperor Akbar in the temple of Jwala Devi
